grey (born frame overo palomino dun)

gris (né frame overo palomino dun)

Description

Golden body with cream to white mane and tail. Results from one Cream gene copy on a chestnut base. Shade ranges from very pale gold to deep orange depending on the intensity of the base chestnut.

Visual traits

Golden body · Cream to white mane and tail · Brown or hazel eyes

Genetic basis

Extension e/e and Cream nCr — one copy of the MATP gene dilutes the red pigment of chestnut.

The Dun gene dilutes the base coat and adds primitive wild-horse markings: a dorsal stripe along the spine, leg barring, and sometimes shoulder stripes.

The Frame Overo pattern adds irregular white patches to the base coat. Crossing two Frame horses is dangerous: 25% of foals will be homozygous O/O (OLWS) and will not survive.
