grey (born chestnut pearl dun)

gris (né alezan perle dun)

Description

Unique dilution of chestnut by the Pearl gene, producing a very light, luminous apricot-pinkish shade. The Pearl gene has its most visible effect on a chestnut base or in two copies.

Visual traits

Very light, luminous apricot-pinkish body · Slightly lighter mane · Blue or amber eyes possible

Genetic basis

Extension e/e, Pearl nPrl — the Pearl gene (MATP) dilutes differently from Cream on a chestnut base.

The Dun gene dilutes the base coat and adds primitive wild-horse markings: a dorsal stripe along the spine, leg barring, and sometimes shoulder stripes.
