grey (born black pearl dun)
gris (né noir perle dun)
in this cross
Description
Black coat with very slight dilution from the Pearl gene. The difference from true black is nearly invisible to the naked eye. Genetic testing is essential to reliably identify this coat.
Visual traits
Barely diluted black body · Practically identical to true black · DNA testing needed
Genetic basis
Extension E/-, Agouti a/a, Pearl nPrl — Pearl has near-zero visible effect on a black base.
The Dun gene dilutes the base coat and adds primitive wild-horse markings: a dorsal stripe along the spine, leg barring, and sometimes shoulder stripes.
