Description

Slate-grey to mouse-grey body with black mane, tail, and lower legs. The Dun gene dilutes the black base and adds primitive wild-horse markings: dorsal stripe, leg barring, sometimes shoulder stripes. Also called grulla or blue dun.

Visual traits

Slate-grey body · Black mane, tail, and lower legs · Primitive markings (dorsal stripe, leg barring) · Brown eyes

Genetic basis

Extension E/-, Agouti a/a, Dun nDn — Dun dilution on a black base produces the characteristic mouse-grey.

The Frame Overo pattern adds irregular white patches to the base coat. Crossing two Frame horses is dangerous: 25% of foals will be homozygous O/O (OLWS) and will not survive.
